for West Thorpe Joinery & Building

Westthorpe Joinery & Building, headed up by Director, Paul Smith, has carried out a numerous scope of alteration works to our metal tin can production factory in Rugby, and were involved as part of a project to refurbish our factory and offices.  Westthorpe organised and carried out an important contributory role in these works including the initial ground works to create a platform for a number of containers for the placement of base units for various sub-contractors. This was followed by internal construction and alteration works to the main production factory to create a further conveyor belt area and demolition of various walls and structures to create new offices.

Paul and his team also carried out our main office refurbishment to create new office spaces, two conference rooms, replacement of an internal fire escape to an external fire escape, a new kitchen area, toilets (including waterless urinal), new lobby areas. Westthorpe carried out all the works necessary including the electrics, plumbing, air conditioning, flooring and decoration to create a fantastic new set of offices and all to a very tight time schedule, always within the strict target we asked for and budget despite all the numerous changes and extra scope of works we made.  They produced all the necessary risk assessments and method statements prior to starting works and adhered to all the safety aspects required.  Paul and his team worked out of hours, weekends and bank holidays in order to achieve completion of all the works for our AGM whereby all our international heads of business attended therefore it was a very important project for us to complete in time for this.

Westthorpe carried out all the works to the tight deadline with complete professionalism and integrity, liaising with us and problem solving where necessary all throughout each stage of works.

Paul Smith has recently finished a small extension for me. The house is stone built and the extension is an awkward shape, filling in a space between the house and garage. Paul and his team have done an excellent job and I am delighted with the finished result.

Paul made sure that the stone of the extension was a match to the existing house. He had the new windows specially made so that they are in keeping with the wooden windows in the rest of the house. He also made two trips to Derbyshire to pick up some reclaimed roof tiles he had sourced, that are a perfect match for the rest of the house and garage. This has meant that the extension doesn’t look ‘new’ and appears to have always been a part of the house. The tradesmen that worked with Paul were all friendly and did a good job of tidying up after themselves.

Any build is obviously subject to a few hiccups (some weather delays at the start, but it was January after all). However, Paul made sure that everything was finished to my satisfaction and was happy to incorporate any alterations I thought of along the way. I am more than happy to recommend Paul and his team.

We would like to thank Westthorpe Joinery for creating such a fantastic loft conversion for us. We wanted a studio space and additional bedroom but had only a basic vision of how we saw the area. Using our architect’s drawings as a starting point Paul worked with us to develop the initial plan into something much more ambitious and fit for our needs now and in future years, whilst still being competitively priced.

A work plan and schedule of staged payments was agreed and no money was asked for upfront. From that point they stuck to the original price except where we chose to include extras as the work progressed, such as future proofing the electrics for a time when we may add an electric shower/en suite, or upgrading the stair treads to solid oak. The team was hard working, polite and considerate. Every day the area of work was made clean and tidy and after completion of the project the room was left in good order for us to move in. Disruption was kept to a minimum within our house, as they gained access to the loft via a newly created hole in the roof which they closed at the end of each day. Paul engaged with a specialist firm of stair designers to create a full width staircase in a space which had at first sight looked impossible. We were more than pleased with the result We were impressed with their workmanship and even the Building Inspector remarked on the quality of the work. Special mention to the plasterers who transformed the bare shell into a spacious room and Ainslie who created the fitted cupboard units which finished of the loft so well.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Westthorpe Joinery to any future customers as they were a friendly, professional, and considerate team providing outstanding value for money and a first class service.
